John Varvatos, once head of menswear at Calvin Klein and Polo Ralph Lauren, founded his New York label in 1999 and launched its first fragrance in 2004. Lion Capital has owned the brand since its 2020 bankruptcy.

Lion Capital, through Lion/Hendrix Cayman Ltd., since 2020. Elizabeth Arden has made the perfumes under licence since 2010; no later change was found. Checked October 2026.
