The house rules
Terms
The rules for using the site, and what we promise.
1What these terms are
These are the rules for using L’Anatomie du Parfum. Reading the site needs no account. Making an account means agreeing to them.
They are an agreement between you and L’Anatomie du Parfum, the site at anatomyofperfume.com.
You agree by ticking the box that says so, once, on the day your account is made. Sections 8 and 10 to 12 apply to every visitor, with or without an account.
2What the site is, and what it is not
A reference about perfume, made with care and able to be wrong. The perfume's own house is the authority.
Ingredient lists, prices, years, perfumers and every other fact on the site are reported as we found them. Any of them can hold a mistake or be out of date. None is claimed to be complete or exact. For the current and authentic facts about a perfume, go to the house that makes it.
The ingredient lists are for interest, not for safety. A box sold in one country may name allergens that a box sold in another does not, and a list changes when a perfume is remade. If you have an allergy, read the box of the bottle in your hand.
Nothing on the site is advice about health.
3Accounts
One account for each person, for adults only.
By making an account you state that you are 18 or over. An account found to belong to someone younger is closed and erased.
You sign in with a code we email you; signing in with Apple or Google may be added. Keep your sign-in to yourself; what is done from your account is taken to be done by you.
One person may hold one account.
4Your shelf and what you write
What you put on your shelf is yours. You let us keep it, count your answers, and show what you chose to show.
You give us permission to store what you enter, to show it back to you on any device, to add your answers to the totals on each perfume's page, to show on your public shelf what you switch on, and to show a line of your own on a perfume's page, without your name, once we have read it.
You can end that permission by switching a thing off or by deleting your account. Totals already made stay, as counts in which nothing points to you.
5Honest answers
Answer only for perfumes you have, and only what is true for you.
Do not answer for a perfume you make, sell or are paid to promote. Do not answer in return for anything of value. Do not use more than one account, and do not answer for someone else.
We may set aside answers that break these rules, or that arrive in a sudden flood, and close the accounts behind them. We do not remove an answer because it is unkind to a perfume, a house or a shop.
6Public shelves and names
Your public shelf shows what you choose, under a name you choose, and both have to be fit for strangers to see.
A name may not pass you off as a perfume house, a shop or another person, and may not be offensive. We may change or remove a name, and take down a public shelf, that breaks this rule.
To report a name or a shelf, write to [email protected].
7What is ours, and what is not
The site's words, layouts and arrangement are ours. Perfume names and bottles belong to their houses, and we are not connected to any of them.
© L’Anatomie du Parfum. The text of the site, its page layouts and the selection and arrangement of its collection are protected by copyright.
The pictures of bottles and ingredients are illustrations made with image-generation tools. They are not photographs of any product.
The names of perfumes and houses, and the look of their bottles, are the marks of their owners. They appear here to say which perfume is meant. No house has approved, sponsored or endorsed the site.
Where the site quotes what a wearer wrote elsewhere, the words belong to the person who wrote them. If they are yours and you want them removed, write to [email protected] and we will remove them.
8No reading by machine
People are welcome to read the site. Programs are not, apart from ordinary search engines.
You may not use a program, crawler, script, AI assistant or agent to read, copy or collect the site's pages, pictures or data, and you may not use them to train an AI system or to build another catalogue, unless we have agreed in writing.
Search engines may index the site for ordinary search results.
This section applies to every visitor, with or without an account. The site also tells machines so in its robots.txt file and turns away those that ignore it.
9Shop links and prices
Some links to shops pay us when you buy, and each one says so. A link never changes what the site says about a perfume.
A price on the site is what a shop asked on the day we read it. The shop's own page is the price.
When you buy from a shop, you buy from that shop, under its terms. We are not the seller and do not handle the order.
10The site comes as it is
We make the site with care and promise nothing about it.
THE SITE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”. WE MAKE NO PROMISE THAT IT IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, UNINTERRUPTED OR FIT FOR ANY PURPOSE, AND WE DISCLAIM EVERY WARRANTY THE LAW ALLOWS US TO DISCLAIM.
You use what you find here at your own judgment.
11The limit on what either of us can claim
The site is free, so the most either of us can claim from the other is $100.
Neither of us is liable to the other for lost profit or for loss that could not have been foreseen.
These terms are read under New Jersey law for every reader. Under that law this limit does not apply to fraud or to harm done on purpose.
12If we disagree
Write to us first. If that does not settle it, a court in New Jersey decides, and small-claims court is always open to you.
Write to [email protected] and give us 30 days to put it right.
These terms are governed by the law of New Jersey. A claim that is not settled is brought in the state or federal courts of New Jersey, or in a small-claims court where you live.
13Changes to these terms
We email account holders thirty days before a change, and ask you to agree again the next time you sign in.
If you do not agree to a change, you can delete your account and take your list with you. The earlier terms cover everything that happened before the change.
14Ending
You can delete your account at any time. We can close an account that breaks these rules.
Sections 7 and 8 and 10 to 12 keep applying after an account ends.
These terms are in force from 14 October 2026. Write to [email protected] about anything in them.
