Treemoss absolute
Mossy, inky and damp with resinous pine-turpentine and leathery facets.
- What it is
- Natural absolute from pseudevernia furfuracea lichen from pine and fir bark.
- Where it comes from
- Europe
- When you smell it
- Dry-down: what stays.
- What perfumers do with it
- Darker, cheaper mossy alternative in chypres and fougères; adds resinous forest-floor depth.
- Worth knowing
- Because it grows on conifers, it picks up resin acids from the bark, which give it a piney edge.
- Rules
- Limited. Same IFRA limits as oakmoss, tied to atranol and chloroatranol.
- Also called
- Pseudevernia furfuracea; mousse d'arbre
