What it is
Natural oil from steam-distilled leaves and twigs of Perilla frutescens, a herb of the mint family.

Used in traces to give a sharp green freshness to citrus colognes, fougères, white florals and tea accords.
Worth knowing
Perillartine, made from the oil's main molecule, is about 2,000 times sweeter than sugar and is used as a sweetener in Japan.
