Oak barrel: cognac-like, vanilla, coconut and dry tannic wood.

What it is
Natural absolute from oak wood chips (Quercus robur, Q. petraea).

What perfumers do with it
Adds barrel-aged, boozy woodiness to gourmand, tobacco and whisky-cognac accords.
Worth knowing
Its coconut note is oak lactone, the same molecule barrel-ageing gives to whisky.
