What it is
A molecule made in a lab, first made by Givaudan in 1968.

What perfumers do with it
Main modern oakmoss substitute, rebuilding chypre and fougère moss accords within IFRA rules.
Worth knowing
Methyl atrarate can be extracted from oakmoss itself, but that route drags the allergenic atranols along.
